The play depicted Minning Town in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region that got rid of poverty thanks to the East-West Pairing-up Program – a project in which the developed areas in the east pair up with the underdeveloped areas in the west to help them in poverty alleviation. Today, some 9,000 households in the town are enjoying a better life.
