Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam on Tuesday announced that she will deliver the 2021 annual policy address on October 6 and some 30 consultation sessions will be conducted for public views and suggestions on the address.

As required by the SAR's Basic Law, the chief executive delivers the annual policy address to set out initiatives and policy directives for the year ahead.

"In the coming two months, I will conduct consultation sessions to widely receive views and suggestions from various sectors as well as the community at large. I sincerely invite members of the public to give their views on the 2021 policy address so that we can map out the future of Hong Kong together," Lam said.

It will be the fifth address by Lam since she took office as chief executive.

Lam gave her 2020 policy address on November 25 last year, during which she highlighted the role of the central government for the financial hub's economic recovery.

During Tuesday's weekly news briefing, she also said that proposed changes to the region's privacy law will only target illegal "doxxing" behavior, after Google, Facebook and Twitter warned that the tech companies could stop offering their services in Hong Kong if it proceeds with plans to change privacy laws.

She added that the privacy commission would be happy to meet with tech industry representatives to deal with any anxieties they might have.
