Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday held a virtual summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Speaking from Beijing, Xi called for building a major-country relationship that is generally stable and balanced. "What China craves most is to develop itself well, rather than replacing others," Xi said.

The purpose of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China is to create more opportunities for common development on the basis of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, he added.
