The Chinese mainland recorded 57 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, 15 cases of local transmission of the virus in southwest China's Yunnan Province and 42 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Wednesday.

In addition, 41 new asymptomatic cases, two from Yunnan and 39 from overseas, were recorded, while 471 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland to 91,949, with the death toll unchanged at 4,636.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 11,944 (11,642 recoveries, 212 deaths)

Macao: 55 (52 recoveries)

Taiwan: 15,088 (11,180 recoveries, 706 deaths)
