Chinese President Xi Jinping said Wednesday that maintaining and growing a sound relationship between China and the Czech Republic accords with the trend of the times and meets the common aspirations of the two peoples.

President Xi made the remarks in a phone conversation with Czech President Milos Zeman on Wednesday night.

Xi said he hopes that the Czech side can see China and its development from the right perspective, focus on improving bilateral communications and cooperation, and properly address some relevant issues so that the Sino-Czech relations can stay healthy with vitality.

Both sides should make full use of the Belt and Road Initiative and other platforms, strengthen cooperation on COVID-19, advance resumption of work and economic recovery, and encourage more two-way investment and trade, he added.

As the outcomes of the Summit of China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) are being implemented, Xi stressed, it is hoped that the Czech Republic will make concerted efforts together with China to create more opportunities for development of both sides, and play an active role in strengthening dialogue and cooperation between China and Europe and realizing mutual benefit and win-win result.

On his part, Zeman said the Czech Republic is committed to improving friendly cooperation and working closely with China, and removing obstacles so as to ensure the bilateral ties grow healthily and smoothly.

All countries should unite and cooperate to deal with global challenges like terrorism, said the Czech president, who also stressed that his country is ready to act as a bond between Europe and China.

He also sent his sincere congratulations on the just-celebrated 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and his best wishes to a successful Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
