In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) firmly opposed the U.S. extension of the so-called "national emergency designation" and related sanctions imposed on Hong Kong, saying it's a repeated meddling in China's internal affairs.

The U.S. deliberately distorted the principle of "one country, two systems," seriously jeopardized China's sovereignty, security and development interests and undermined the prosperity and stability of the HKSAR, the statement read.
