China urges countries to stop 'unreasonable' crackdown on its firms

China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) on Thursday urged relevant countries to stop "unreasonable" crackdown on Chinese enterprises.

China has stressed on many occasions that the allegations of "forced labor" in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region are totally against facts, MOFCOM spokesman Gao Feng told a press briefing.

Protectionism and bullying by some countries in the name of human rights seriously damage the international economic and trade order, added Gao.

Gao's remarks came in response to reports mentioning that the president of the parent company of Muji, a lifestyle and fashion retailer, has stated that "no human rights violations have been found" and the company will continue to use Xinjiang cotton.

China is willing to continue to provide active support for foreign enterprises to conduct trade and investment in Xinjiang, said Gao.
