The 2021 World Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference opened in Shanghai on Thursday. Since COVID-19 is well under control in China, hundreds of AI developers can attend the event offline, where many of them debut their latest products.

One of the most eye-catching products at the exhibition is an oracle bone inscriptions detector. By simply scanning the oracle bone inscriptions on it, one will know the meaning of it. It may seem a bit entertaining, but its developer IntSig Information has already cooperated with museums in China to implement the application.

Chang Yang, product director of the detector, said the technology aims to help staff at museums increase work efficiency.

The soon-to-be used equipment at the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing can also be found. It can automatically detect whether the participants are eligible to enter the resort and can reduce labor costs.

"In the resort, the temperature can go down to minus 40 degrees. And it's almost impossible for people to cover such a big area. This device can handle extreme weather like cold, wind, snow, and all kinds of harsh conditions. Basically, it can take the place of what would be a lot of human efforts," said Wei Hongfeng, chief scientist at China Science IntelliCloud Technology.

AI is also being applied to other areas such as education, health care, automobiles, and manufacturing, all featuring at the event.

As of the end of 2020, there are more than 1,100 companies in Shanghai dedicated to developing AI applications. The total industrial value recorded a 50-percent increase in 2020 despite the COVID-19 epidemic. AI developers are showing confidence in the industry.

"China has a large population. Every day we create so much data here. We can use the data to train our business models and learning models. Using these models we can create so many applications and products to help our businesses better understand the people," said Li Chen, general manager of OSChina Community.

It's the fourth year that Shanghai has held the World AI Conference. In addition to the main exhibition, forums on topics ranging from AI and chips to 5G applications are also expected at the conference. The event will last until July 10.
