Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from July 12 to 16, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said Friday.

During the visit, Wang will attend the Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers, SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group Meeting, as well as an international connectivity summit named "Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity, Challenges and Opportunities."

The security situation in the war-torn Afghanistan has deteriorated as Taliban militants continue heavy fighting against government forces.

This week more than 1,000 Afghan troops fled into Tajikistan after a blistering offensive by the insurgents in the north of Afghanistan.

Russia on Friday said the Taliban controls about two-thirds of the Afghan-Tajik border.
