Algerian PM tests positive for COVID-19

Algerian Prime Minister Ayman Benabderrahmane has tested positive for COVID-19, the official APS news agency reported on Saturday.

Benabderrahmane is now in self-quarantine for seven days in accordance with medical guidelines, carrying out his duties from home, according to a statement by the prime minister's office.

Benabderrahmane was appointed as prime minister on June 30.

Algeria is seeing a surge in COVID-19 infections, with confirmed cases rising from around 200 a day in June to more than 800 in recent days.
