Thousands of youngsters from Xinjiang's ethnic minority groups receive training in a range of vocational courses at the Kashgar Technical College.
Established in 1978, the college caters to over 10,000 students from the 12 counties of Kashgar Prefecture, offering a range of academic courses. After two to three years of academics and internships, the college also assists in getting suitable placements for its young graduates.
While technical and vocational centers in Xinjiang have been under the international spotlight for political reasons, one cannot overlook the vital role of these institutions in integrating youths from marginalized communities and bringing them into China’s mainstream. And in the process, giving them adequate skills and the confidence to meet the challenges of a constantly changing modern world.
