At least 92 people were killed and around 100 others injured when a huge fire broke out in a hospital treating coronavirus patients in Iraq's southern province of Dhi Qar on Monday evening, Reuters reported, citing local sources.

The massive fire hit the quarantine center for coronavirus patients in Al-Hussein Hospital in the provincial capital city of Al-Nasiriyah, some 375 kilometers south of Baghdad.

Patients were evacuated when the fire spread in part of the quarantine center.

The Health Department of Dhi Qar Province declared a state of emergency after the fire.
