The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany is expected to be completed by the end of August. Matthias Warnig, chief executive officer of the company behind the project, told German media over the weekend that the pipeline will meet all licensing requirements and international standards, despite U.S. sanctions. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline is set to double natural gas supplies from Russia to Germany. But in recent months, it has been beset by controversy since the project will bypass Ukraine, depriving the country of around one billion euros annually in transit fees.
