Seventeen people were killed and five others injured after an annex to a hotel collapsed in Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province, local authorities said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Suzhou's Wujiang District at approximately 3:33 p.m. (0733 GMT) Monday, during which 23 people were trapped, according to the rescue headquarters. The rescue operation ended at 9 a.m. (0100 GMT) Wednesday.
