China will hold the world's biggest international fair for the services trade from September 2 to 7, demonstrating the country's strong confidence and decisiveness in expanding reform and opening-up.

The venue for the 2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) covers 130,000 square meters, and will feature multiple types of events both online and on site.

Launched in 2012 and formerly known as the Beijing Fair, CIFTIS is positioned as the international comprehensive trading platform of trade in services at the national level, and is the leading exhibition and conference of China's trade in services.

Themed "Digitalization Creates the Future, Services Facilitate Development," this year's fair will see heads of countries and international organizations speak at the main summit.

It will also host more than 100 panels and meetings, covering hot topic issues such as the digital trade, carbon neutrality and fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event will also hold exhibitions and business meetings. Governments, world-leading companies and international organizations will announce new products and publish their latest reports.

"About 140 organizations from more than 100 foreign countries and regions are going to participate in the fair, including all the top 30 countries and regions in the services trade, and nearly 80 Belt and Road countries," said Yan Ligang, chief of the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau. "So far, more than 350 companies have confirmed they will join the event, including more than 30 of the world's top 500 enterprises."

China says the five-day event aims to cement its place as the world's most influential event of its kind and it will take measures to develop the fair into the world's most influential international fair for the services trade.

"We will release some important policies and measures on the services trade, and enhance the level of guests and companies," said Zhang Ji, deputy director of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges. "We will also put in full efforts to facilitate the connection between supply and demand and facilitate deals. Trading groups of central non-financial and financial companies, and those from local provinces and regions will join the event."

On the need for global cooperation and openness in the services trade, Chinese President Xi Jinping once stressed the importance of innovation, and proposed to create an open and inclusive environment to achieve win-win results. His proposals will guide this year's international fair as well.
