The centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) demonstrate the strength in China's political model, which is also apparent in the country's coronavirus response, Hong Kong politician Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee said in an article published by the South China Morning Post on Sunday.

Ip, who is also a lawmaker in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), spoke highly of the anti-pandemic measures put in place in the grand celebrations held two weeks ago in Beijing, saying that the CPC has succeeded in protecting the nation from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Ip, the success shows China's strength in mass mobilization and organization while the strength becomes more prominent when the Chinese people shows willingness "to observe rules and make sacrifices for the greater good."

China's ability to mobilize and organize its people, according to Ip, "has deep historic roots and has delivered results for the people."

The CPC has tried to represent the interests of the people through continuous self-correction and delivering what the people want, which are peace, stability, prosperity, technological progress, national pride and a better quality of life, Ip wrote.

The Hong Kong politician said there was no one-size-fits-all model for modernization, calling on every country to find a modernization path based on its circumstances.

Noting that some foreign forces have attempted to interfere in China's internal affairs, Ip said that democracy comes in different shapes and forms, and whether a country should go down the certain democratic path should be decided by its people rather than a handful of outsiders.

"China should be left to chart its own path, and countries that strive to export its democratic model to others, under the banner of freedom, are bound to fail, where the conditions are not right and true espousal of democratic values is absent," Ip added.
