The Chinese mainland recorded 28 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, five of which were local transmissions reported in southwestern Yunnan Province while the 23 others were from overseas, the latest data from the National Health Commission showed on Thursday.

In addition, eight new asymptomatic cases, all from overseas, were recorded on Wednesday, while 451 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland to 92,147, with the death toll unchanged at 4,636.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 11,955 (11,669 recoveries, 212 deaths)

Macao: 55 (53 recoveries)

Taiwan: 15,328 (11,964 recoveries, 753 deaths)
