A male killer whale calf was found stranded on rocks near Plimmerton, north of Wellington, New Zealand on July 11. 

Named Toa, Maori for "warrior," the 2.5-meter-long whale is believed to be four to six months old. As it is unweaned so it has to go back to its mother for food.

The rescuers, including firefighters, police, people from Department of Conservation (DOC) and volunteers from the Orca Research Trust, have been taking shifts to care for the calf since it separated from its pod, as the search for the killer whale's pod continues.
