The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has confirmed that two matches at Wimbledon 2021 are under investigation over irregular betting patterns. 

German media outlet Die Weit first broke the news and revealed that a first-round men's doubles match and a singles tie involving a German player were deemed suspicious.

The ITIA has not released any information surrounding the match-fixing investigations, but it released a statement confirming a probe is ongoing. 

"Two alerts were provided to us from the betting industry indicating possible irregular betting patterns," the ITIA said. "It is important to note that an alert on its own is not evidence of match-fixing. Where analysis of a match alert does suggest corrupt activity, the ITIA conducts a full and confidential investigation." 

The fixing of matches in tennis has aroused substantial public attention in recent times. Last month, Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova was arrested in Paris by French police as part of a match-fixing inquiry.  

According to Le Parisien, the 26-year-old was arrested while leaving a massage session after her French Open first-round doubles match. Her hotel room was searched before she was taken into custody on June 3. 

Sizikova could face up to five years in prison if she is found guilty of sports corruption, but her lawyer told the Russian news agency Tass that the player denies all the charges against her.
