Isabel Crook: Pioneer of English language teaching in PRC
04:13

In the early 1940s, Isabel Crook met committed British communist David Crook and the two were married in 1942. In 1948, a representative from CPC approached the couple, inviting them to stay in China and teach English to China's future diplomats. They ended up staying permanently in the country, becoming one of the first teachers at the Beijing Foreign Languages Institute, which is now known as the Beijing Foreign Studies University.
