Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games organizers confirmed on Saturday that there has been a case of COVID-19, the first such case at the Tokyo Olympic Games Village.

Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto confirmed that a visitor from abroad who is involved in organizing the Games had tested positive of the coronavirus. He declined to reveal the person's nationality, citing privacy concerns.

"There was one person in the Village. That was the very first case in the Village that was reported during the screening test," Masa Takaya, spokesperson for the Tokyo Olympics organizing committee, told a press conference.

According to reports, the athlete who has tested positive for coronavirus has been transferred to a medical facility.
