A U.S. military transport plane landed in Taiwan on July 15, 2021. It was an extremely risky and provocative action, literally playing with fire by blatantly running into China's "red line" and seriously violating the provisions of the three joint communiqués between China and the United States. China expressed its strong opposition to the incident and issued a solemn warning that the Chinese military is on high alert and will take all necessary measures to resolutely defeat any attempt toward "Taiwan independence."
On July 6, 2021, Kurt Campbell, U.S. National Security Council's Coordinator for Indo-Pacific Affairs, participated in a conversation with the Asia Society, a U.S. think tank, and stressed that the Biden Administration stands by the "One China Policy" and "we fully recognize and understand the sensitivities here."
At the time, many international media regarded his remarks as a sign that the Biden administration would return to rationality in terms of its Taiwan-related policy. However, in just a matter of ten days, a U.S. military transport plane landed on the island and openly engaged in military collusion.
Such duplicity of the U.S. side has not only laid bare its intention of "using Taiwan to contain China," but also showed that the U.S. has no credibility as a great power and tends to say one thing but do another, which can hardly win any respect from the international community.
The Taiwan issue concerns the core interests of China and is the most sensitive one in China-U.S. relations. While the Biden administration has claimed it would adhere to the One-China Policy, in reality it has never stopped condoning and encouraging Taiwan separatist forces, with the intention of making Taiwan a pawn in a comprehensive U.S. strategy to contain China.
Their erroneous approach has not only complicated the situation in the Taiwan Straits and would lead Taiwan into a dangerous situation, but increased tensions between China and the United States.
It is a basic fact recognized by the international community that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. In front of the strong and united Chinese people, any attempt to divide China is bound to fail. On the same day the U.S. military plane landed in Taiwan, China released its economic data for the first half of 2021 – a growth rate of 12.7 percent.
China's economy shows more resilience and greater potential than previously believed by the international community. The country's strong economy lends more confidence and support for its goal of building the PLA into a world-class military.
China has never interfered in the internal affairs of other countries and will never allow other countries to interfere in its own. No one should underestimate the resolve, the will, and the ability of the Chinese people and the Chinese military to defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
China must be and will be reunited. That is an irreversible historical trend that no external forces can change. If some individuals on the U.S. side move against the trend, they will find themselves on a collision course with a great wall of steel forged by over 1.4 billion Chinese people.
