World's largest planetarium opens in Shanghai

Shanghai Astronomy Museum, the world's largest planetarium in terms of building scale, opened on July 17, 2021. The museum houses exhibitions, an 8K ultra-high definition dome theatre, an observatory and a solar telescope.

Among the collections that will be on display are some 70 meteorites including those from the moon, Mars and Vesta, as well as over 120 artifacts, including original works by Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei and Johannes Kepler.

Technologies such as data visualization, augmented reality, virtual reality and biometrics have been introduced to help visitors gain knowledge of astronomy and science through interaction.
