"What's up Sichuan?" is a new livestream series by CGTN Nature about the southwestern Chinese province and our first stop is the provincial capital Chengdu.

Chengdu is known for its spicy food, adorable pandas and light-hearted lifestyle. The city also boasts lush greenery and abundant flora. Walking around, one can easily spot – and smell – beautiful blossoms of all kinds.

On the way to the location of our upcoming livestream, our crew passed by a narrow alley festooned with Chinese trumpet vines and great bougainvilleas.

The Chinese trumpet vine (Campsis grandiflora), also known as the Chinese trumpet creeper, is a woody vine native to the eastern and southeastern parts of the country. When in bloom, it puts on a spectacular display of colors, mainly orange or red. In the area of the Yangtze River basin, the flower is widely grown for ornamental purposes.

The great bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spectabilis) is one of the most famous flowers in south China. It is a vine species that is native to South America. It was introduced to Europe and other parts of the world after the 19th century. The plant is evergreen in areas with plenty of rainfall all over the year or deciduous in dry areas.
