China voices firm support for Arab states' unity and development

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday voiced China's support for Arab states to follow a path of unity and self-improvement.

Wang made the remarks during a meeting with Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, in Alamein, Egypt.

China supports the AL to play a greater role in promoting regional peace and stability as well as the political settlement of hotspot issues, the foreign minister said.

Wang hailed the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum's role in boosting the ties between China and Arab states, adding the consensus reached on building a China-Arab community with a shared future in the new era and holding the first China-Arab states summit had injected new impetus into the strategic partnership between China and Arab states.

Aboul-Gheit extended congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and spoke highly of the historic achievements made by the Chinese people under the CPC's leadership.

He also thanked China for providing material assistance to the AL to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aboul-Gheit added that the AL appreciates China's just position on regional issues, supports China's initiatives on the regional situation and hotspot issues, and is willing to communicate closely with China to ensure the success of the first China-Arab states summit.

Wang and Aboul-Gheit also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
