China on Tuesday slammed unwarranted accusations made by the U.S. and its allies regarding cyberattacks, urging the U.S. to regulate itself and stop its cyber espionage against China.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks in response to statements made by the U.S. and its allies blaming China for cyberattacks. He called the accusation unwarranted and is made totally out of political ends.

It is a smear and suppression that China will never accept, Zhao said, stressing that China resolutely opposes any form of cyberattacks and will never support or allow any hacker attacks.

Noting that the internet is a virtual space and any crimes conducted in that place are hard to trace, Zhao said people making accusations that associate cyberattacks with a country's government should be very cautious. The so-called technological details disclosed by the U.S. side fail to form a complete chain of evidence, he said.

Zhao also pointed out that the U.S. is the biggest country of origin of cyberattacks, citing a report made by China's cybersecurity company 360. According to the report, the U.S. and its NATO allies rank top in the three countries of origin regarding the number of computers controlled by malicious programs.

As written in the report, CIA hacking group APT-C-39's cyberattacks against China's key sectors, including aviation organizations, scientific research institutions, petroleum industry, internet companies and government agencies, span 11 years.

These attacks seriously harm China's national, economic and infrastructure security, as well as the information security of individuals, Zhao said, urging the U.S. and its allies to stop smearing China and stop any cyberattacks against China.

He said the U.S. is notorious for tapping others, as it tapped both its competitors and allies. America's allies in Europe understate its actions while hyping up the so-called China cyberattacks; the move is contradictory to the strategic autonomy they have proclaimed, said Zhao.

Stating that cyberattacks are a common threat for the whole international community, the spokesperson stressed that China will take the necessary measures to defend cybersecurity and called on all sides to jointly defend cybersecurity on the basis of mutual respect and benefit.
