Leftist Pedro Castillo was proclaimed Peru's president-elect Monday by an electoral jury after reviewing claims of fraud raised by his right-wing rival Keiko Fujimori. Castillo, a 51-year-old former schoolteacher and son of peasant farmers, was declared the victor six weeks after a polarizing vote and will take office on July 28 for a five-year term.
