Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited the city of Lhasa in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region on July 22. In the afternoon, President Xi inspected Drepung Monastery, Barkhor Street and Potala Palace Square to learn about work on ethnic and religious affairs, the conservation of the ancient city, and the inheritance and protection of Tibetan culture. His visit came after Tibet celebrated its 70th anniversary of peaceful liberation in May.
