Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday warmly received representatives of the Chinese People's Liberation Army troops stationed in Lhasa, the capital city of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, speaking highly of their work and contributions.

Xi, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, called on the officers and soldiers to strengthen military training and war preparedness in an all-round way and make positive contributions to the long-term peace, stability, prosperity and development of the plateau region.

During his inspection in Tibet, Xi learned that an extremely heavy rainstorm had hit the central province of Henan. He instructed swift and all-out rescue efforts to save lives and property. He also ordered the military and armed police to join the disaster relief, and all relevant ministries and departments to coordinate their work.

The president extended congratulations to the 70th anniversary of Tibet's peaceful liberation, visited officials and ordinary residents of various ethnic groups and conveyed the CPC Central Committee's care to them.
