Data from the U.S. Center for Disease Control shows only 36 percent of residents in the southeastern state of Alabama have received one shot of the vaccine. Tan said the politicization of the coronavirus has hampered efforts in unifying the public to fight the pandemic, but some government officials are changing their stance and are now advocating for vaccination, which might help encourage people to get the shot.
