Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday sent a congratulatory message to Nguyen Xuan Phuc on his re-election as Vietnam's state president.

In his congratulatory message, Xi described China and Vietnam as "socialist neighbors linked by mountains and rivers," underscoring their profound friendship and extensive common interests. In the face of transformations rarely seen in a century and the once-in-a-century COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides have sticked to their shared ideals and convictions, acted on the original aspiration of solidarity and friendship, and taken concrete actions to enrich and update their comprehensive strategic cooperation, he said.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, noted that the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam was held this year and that the year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. He expressed his willingness to make joint efforts with the Vietnamese side to strengthen strategic guidance for relations between the two parties and the two countries, and forge a community with a shared future of strategic significance between China and Vietnam.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Monday congratulated Pham Minh Chinh on his re-election as the prime minister of Vietnam in a separate message.

Li said he stands ready to work with Chinh to enhance political mutual trust between the two countries, accelerate the alignment of their development strategies, and strive for mutual benefit and win-win results.

The 15th National Assembly of Vietnam on Monday re-elected Phuc as the state president and Chinh as the prime minister for the 2021-2026 period.
