Chinese duo Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen claimed the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics table tennis mixed doubles event on Monday. Japan's Jun Mizutani and Mima Ito took the top spot on the podium.

Jun Mizutani and Mima Ito came from two sets down and led by 3-2, pressuring the Chinese duo, who put up a fight in the sixth set, tying at 3-3.

The burden was still on Xu and Liu as the Japanese duo opened the final set with a 5-0 lead, leaving no other option for the Chinese duo but to shake off the pressure and bring out their best.

The Japanese duo extended their leading edge to 8-0, and won the match point at 10-5, after the Chinese duo responded to the pressure with poise. 

Mizutani and Ito eventually sealed the deal at 11-6, finalizing the score on 5-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6.
