As victory in the War of Resistance approached, the future development path for China became a hot topic of discussion between the CPC and the KMT. During this time, Chongqing was chosen as the location for a historical round of negotiations over their grand plans for reconstructing the nation. Mao Zedong arrived in Chongqing on August 28, 1945 with a courageous reputation. Over the course of 43 days, he actively furthered peace negotiations between the CPC and the KMT, conducted multi-level work on the United Front, and met with prominent figures from all walks of life, including three American soldiers from the 14th Flying Tigers Squadron. The sincerity and charisma of Mao Zedong during this meeting left a deep impression on the three American soldiers, as he embodied the demeanor of a CPC leader and won hearts and minds for the Party.
