Philippines' Hidilyn Diaz has become her country's first ever Olympic gold medalist, winning the women's 55-kilogram category for weightlifting. This is Diaz's fourth Olympics.
The 30-year-old lifted a combined weight of 224 kg on Monday, setting an Olympic record. Diaz said in a post-match interview that she was shocked to be able to lift such a weight. Philippines' presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a written statement that Diaz brought pride and glory to the country.
