A Washington Post article published on July 15 stigmatized the Chinese government for profiting from COVID-19 vaccine deals.

In response to the accusations, CGTN's Liu Xin on Thursday wrote an article, titled "Is China profiteering from vaccine deals? That's just an absurd American claim," for South China Morning Post.

The article introduces the operational mechanism of COVAX, the global COVID-19 vaccines distributor, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, besides throwing light on the international application of Chinese vaccines. It aptly refutes the claims and reaffirms China's international vaccine assistance efforts, all the while reiterating the responsibilities of major countries.

"The recent global vaccine alliance deals signed with Chinese companies have some U.S. politicians and pundits crying foul. It's bad enough to allege that a Chinese 'scheme' aims to profiteer from a pandemic. It's worse to stoke fear that China is pocketing U.S. taxpayers' money," wrote Liu.

"It's a pity that ideology and power politics come before human lives for some people, although they claim to defend human rights. For them, maintaining global dominance seems more important than distributing safe shots quickly," she noted, adding that "misleading the public and fanning populist sentiment make matters worse."
