The U.S. is guilty of "three sins" in COVID-19 pandemic response and origin-tracing, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) spokesperson Zhao Lijian said during a daily press conference on Thursday. They include allowing the virus to spread untracked, hiding the truth about the virus and seeking "origin-tracing terrorism," he said.

The U.S. has the world's leading medical technology, but about 35 million people in the country have been infected and more than 610,000 people have lost their lives. At the same time, research from Washington University shows the number of new infections may be as high as 65 million, with 900,000 deaths, much higher than official statistics. 

Speaking of "origin-tracing terrorism," he said that since the U.S. previous government began calling the virus the "Chinese Virus," anti-Asian sentiments have been rising. Many Asian people have been subjected to discrimination, oppression and threats to personal safety. 

Zhao added the sins are just the tip of the iceberg, as the U.S. continues to engage in political manipulation amid the pandemic.
