The Japanese government has declared states of emergency in the western prefecture of Osaka and three prefectures near Tokyo to curb the new surge of COVID-19 cases. Japan's prime minister and the Olympics organizers have denied there is any link between the Summer Games and the recent sharp rise in cases. On Friday, 27 new Games-related cases were reported, bringing the total Games-linked infections since July 1 to 220.
