The World Health Organization says global COVID-19 infections have nearly doubled over the past four weeks. The WHO blamed the Delta variant for the sharp rise, and said the situation highlighted the need to act before other variants emerged. It also called on countries to speed up vaccination, and to cooperate on origin tracing.
