Taliban fighters struck Kandahar airport in southern Afghanistan with at least three rockets overnight, the group's spokesperson told Reuters on Sunday, adding that the aim was to thwart air strikes conducted by Afghan government forces.

Afghan government officials said that the airport's runway was partially damaged in the rocket attacks, which forced authorities to suspend all flights at the airport. There were no immediate reports of casualties, the officials said.
