In Dazong Village in Lanping County, southwest China's Yunnan Province, about 90 percent of the villagers are members of the Lisu ethnic minority. In 2019, there were 564 households – 1,987 people in total – and the poverty rate was 77 percent. Within two years, the village's first secretary helped increase locals' average income from 3,000 yuan to more than 8,000 yuan.
