In Dazong Village in Lanping County, southwest China's Yunnan Province, about 90 percent of the villagers are members of the Lisu ethnic minority. In 2019, there were 564 households – 1,987 people in total – and the poverty rate was 77 percent. Within two years, the village's first secretary helped increase locals' average income from 3,000 yuan to more than 8,000 yuan. In February 2021, he received the award of "National Advanced Individuals in Poverty Alleviation."
