China's star gymnast Xiao Ruoteng finished his Olympics trip with one silver and two bronze medals. The 25-year-old said he was happy with his time in Tokyo, but has regrets over the men's all-round event.
In an exclusive interview with CGTN, Xiao talked about his feelings.
"I think my Olympics was really meaningful and full of challenges. I'm pretty satisfied with how I performed. I'm very happy despite not being able to finish first in any of these events. There were regrets indeed because I think my abilities deserved a gold medal. And our men's team had the chance to claim gold with our capabilities. I feel regretful for not finishing first. I increased my fitness training prior to the Olympics to cope with multiple events. I devote all my efforts in each event after I decide to compete," he said.
At the men's gymnastics individual all-around final, Xiao impressed audiences with outstanding performances in floor exercise, vault and rings, topping the competition after three rotations. He continued to lead the rankings after high-quality parallel bars. But 19-year-old Japanese Daiki Hashimoto finished with an unparalleled 14.933 in the horizontal bar, and Xiao settled for a silver medal. The Beijing native also bagged a bronze in the floor exercise final.
