The newly detected, COVID-19 case in east China's Shanghai belongs to the Delta variant, local government said on Wednesday. 

The patient, a man who works with foreign freighters at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, was diagnosed on Monday. 

The latest infection might be attributed to exposure to an environment contaminated by imported COVID-19 cases, an analysis by experts showed.
