Ruoergai County in southwest China's Sichuan Province is known as the hometown of black-necked cranes.

Every March, the birds migrate from neighboring Yunnan and Guizhou provinces to Sichuan. They mate, build nests, breed and bring up fledglings in the vast Ruoergai Wetland. Now, it's the time for the black-necked crane families to welcome new members.

The Ruoergai Wetland is the world's largest well-preserved alpine Sphagnum bog, occupying a land area of 4,094.31 hectares. The wetland is an important habitat for black-necked cranes, one of a few birds that live and breed on the plateau.

Under first-class state protection in China, the population of the black-necked crane in the wetland has increased to about 2,000 in recent years due to the improving environment.
