Chinese teenager Quan Hongchan won the gold medal in the women's 10-meter platform diving finals at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Thursday. The 14-year-old is the event's youngest contender and also the youngest member of Team China.

Quan finished with a score of 466.20 points, followed by teammate Chen Yuxi with 425.40 and Australia's Melissa Wu with 371.40.

It marks the fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal for a Chinese athlete in the event. Even more impressive, Quan received a perfect score of 96 points on three of her five dives: inward 3½ somersaults (407C), armstand back double somersault 1½ twists (5243D) and back 2½ somersaults 1½ twists (5253B).

In fact, Quan score higher than 95 points on all four of her dives following the first one (82.5). Her lead was almost 30 points from the second round and it continued to grow by double digits after every dive.

This was Quan's first appearance in any of the three major international diving events – FINA Diving World Cup, World Aquatics Championships and Summer Olympics – and she has already carried on the glory from divers Zhou Jihong, Xu Yanmei, Fu Mingxia, Chen Ruolin and Ren Qian.

Though she did not strike gold in the women's single 10m platform, Chen topped the podium in the women's 10m synchronized platform after pairing with Zhang Jiaqi, who also made her Olympic debut in Tokyo.
