Tokyo sets new COVID record, daily cases surpass 5,000

The Olympic host city Tokyo registered a record of over 5,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time on Thursday, public broadcaster NHK said, blowing past the record-high of 4,166 COVID-19 cases a day earlier.
