Peru's President Pedro Castillo received the first dose of China's Sinopharm vaccine against COVID-19 on August 6, the opening day of the fourth vaccination program that started in the capital city of Lima. Peru launched its national vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in February, with frontline health workers given priority for the jabs. Castillo's vaccination coincided with the beginning of the mass application of the Sinopharm vaccine to the general population. As of August 6, more than 5.75 million people had completed two doses.
