People boarded an evacuation ferry on the Greek island of Evia as clouds of smoke and dark orange skies caused by a days-old wildfire engulfed the shore. The blaze broke out in Greece in the wake of the country's most protracted and intense heat wave in three decades, which sent temperatures soaring to 45 degrees Celsius and created bone-dry conditions.
Evacuation orders were issued for four villages, but some residents refused to leave, hoping to save their properties.
