UK imposes sanctions on Belarus, Lukashenko retorts: 'choke on them'
CGTN

Britain on Monday imposed new sanctions on Belarus, targeting state-owned banks and also prohibiting Belarusian air carriers from flying over or landing in the country.

The British sanctions, which prohibited the purchase of transferable securities and money-market instruments issued by the Belarusian state and its state-owned banks, are the latest sanctions imposed by the West.

"These sanctions demonstrate that the UK will not accept Lukashenko’s actions since the fraudulent election," UK’s Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said.

In a fierce response, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said London should "choke on" the new measures.
