World Lion Day: Protect the king of the jungle
CGTN

World Lion Day is celebrated annually on August 10 to raise awareness about this endangered species, the king of the jungle.

Lions have freely roamed across Asia, Africa, Middle East and Europe as far back as 3 million years ago. However, they have lost 82 percent of their historic habitat in the last century.

Now, most wild lions live in Africa, and a small group of them live in western India. It is estimated that there are around 32,000 lions living in the wild.
