Many white-tailed deer, abundant in North America, especially near urban centers in eastern United States, have antibodies to the virus that causes COVID-19, according to a U.S. study published in Nature, one of the world's top scientific journals, on August 2. The U.S. scientists have found that one third of the deer blood samples collected in four U.S. states contained SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, including three samples from early 2020 and one from 2019.
